Note from the President- Thank you Sandy Vukonich for inviting us into your gardens. Your kindness and hospitality are so much appreciated. The gardens are beautiful as always with lots of color and texture.
September 11th is the Annual Plant Exchange at Suncrest in Lapeer. This will be the same as in the past with a Potluck, the Annual Meeting, and the Plant Exchange. We will be having a potluck at 4:00 PM for those that want to participate. For those that do not want to participate in a potluck you can arrive at 5:00 PM when we will start the Annual Meeting. The meeting portion will include a Treasury update, Minutes from our last group meeting, and a time for any issues that members want to discuss. The Plant Exchange will begin at 5:30 PM.
You should have already potted anything you are planning on bringing to the Exchange. All plants should have a tag in them to say the type of plant, cultivar if known, or at least a short description of its desirable traits. Please refrain from bringing known invasive species i.e. Ostrich Fern, Houttuynia, Painter’s Pallet, Bishop’s Weed, or any other invasive plant. The exchange is not limited to plants; Garden ornaments, garden tools, birdhouses, etc. are welcome. Please bring something to put into the Exchange. Cathy is making signs for the Exchange to make it easier to make a choice of what you want. Sign examples will be Hosta, Houseplants, Perennials, etc. When you arrive at Suncrest, please place your plants in the appropriately marked area for the type of plant. There will be the $5.00 table as well for the choicest plants. Please be sure to bring cash with you to the exchange
When you arrive, please be sure to sign in as the Exchange is drawn off of the sign-in sheet (if you live in the same household, please sign on the same line). Every current paid membership gets one chance in each round of the Exchange. You can pay your $10.00 annual dues before the drawing if you are not current or want to join the club. Numbered chips that correlate to the sign-in sheet are placed into a container and are drawn randomly until all numbers are drawn. When your name is called you can go out to the Exchange plants and take a plant. If you prefer, when your name is called you can choose a plant from the $5 table of the choicest plants and give Cathy Hodgson the $5. The drawing continues until all plants have been taken.
At the end of the Exchange, please take any leftover plants that you brought back home with you. We are not allowed to throw plants in the garbage at Suncrest and it is not courteous to make others clean up your leftovers.
